Is belly fat dangerous?

When you think of fat you think of the fat around the stomach which is especially true for most men and a good deal of women. If you are on a diet you also know that the last place that weight seems to come off is in the stomach or waist area. That’s bad not only because it is noticeable but also because that fat is most dangerous that you can have.

Belly fat or subcutaneous fat is a natural place for fat to be stored. It is easy to carry there and hard to get rid of because your body sees it as a great energy resource. But it isn’t just the fat that you see that is dangerous it’s the fat that exists around your organs behind your belly, the visceral fat that can cause great health risks like colon cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

What causes this type of fat?

One of the main culprits of belly fat is Trans fat, which is man made fat that is put into foods. This seems to be worse than any other type of fat for stretching your waist. Another problem is your sedentary lifestyle and your eating habits. Lack of sleep can also play a part in gaining weight since sleep deprivation cuts down on Leptin, which is a appetite suppressant.

How to get rid of belly fat.

Simply eating less, especially trans fat, is the easy answer. But to really be effective you must try to eat smaller meals each day, say 5 small meals instead of 3 big meals. And of course you must incorporate some kind of exercise program, walking is a great way to start.
